I was in St. Paul two days in a row a couple of weeks ago. I was there for Learning Walks for the Academic Literacy Project. The ALP started in 2011-12 and I participated as a teacher, my last year in the classroom. ALP was the best professional development I have received due to a number of reasons. The main reason was the follow-up that happened after the trainings with the learning walks. Learning walks kept the strategies l learned in front of me, so I implemented as many of them as I could. Learning walks also provided me the opportunity to receive feedback from my peers as well as ESU staff, while allowing me to see my colleagues implement the strategies too!
Part of my job at ESU 10 now involves going to some of our schools to help facilitate the learning walks. It's always fun to be in classrooms! St. Paul was one of the schools which started ALP that first year, and has been sending teachers every year since. It is a district that also conducts learning walks regularly.
So, naturally, I took my running stuff and ran in St. Paul when the school day was over. It was a little chilly and windy, but I got it done!
