My grandson Drake had a Christmas program last night. It was really fun to watch this year! He is 3 and a half and he actually knew the songs and the actions! In fact, he was practicing in the car one day! Of course, I captured one of the songs on my iPhone so that I could share it with his Jimpa, who couldn't be there!
Then I noticed that many other proud parents and grandparents were doing the same thing! I snapped this picture from behind several people because it just struck me that this is so normal, so common place, even so necessary in today's world! I'm 52 and I know that there are not any pictures, let alone videos, of any of MY Christmas programs!
And that made me think about technology in schools. This article was recently shared with me and it's worth a read. We know that just putting devices in classrooms is not going to make a difference on its own. (Actually, technology should not be just an event!) |
But it's what the teacher does with the devices and more importatly, what the students do with them that will make a difference! If technology is infused in the instruction daily, if it's part of the environment of the classroom, if it's like the oxygen in the room...think of the possibilities when the kids use them for learning, collaborating and creating!
