My daughter teaches math and science in a nearby school. She is starting back today with the teacher meetings and trainings! She is excited but also stressed, as a mother of three trying to get back in the groove and say goodbye to slow-paced summer days. I helped her in her classroom one day and that really brought back memories! I'm looking forward to see how her instruction will change this year as she implements more of a blended learning approach.
My grandson is going into first grade and his first day is two days away. He is so excited, as he loved kindergarten and loves learning and now reading....chapter books! He showed me his school supplies and we got new shoes over the weekend! He is going to just be a sponge again this year!
A few weeks ago, we had new teachers at ESU 10 for some training and support! Oh my goodness, do they look young! But they are so excited to start their careers! I remember like it was just last year how scared and nervous I was, and how hard that first year really was! Two of my former students were there, and that made me so happy that they are going to pursue this wonderful profession!
My back to school experience these days involves getting to be in schools as they have their inservice meetings. It's interesting to be at those meetings in a different role, providing the professional development and technology training! It's really fun to be in many different schools and see the excitement in the teachers to be back and to see how each inservice is different, yet similar! It makes me miss my former teaching buddies tremendously! You know who you are!
"Back to school" may be a 3 word phrase that many dread. I actually believe all teachers are truly ready to start a fresh school year and have the opportunities to create relationships with students! Good luck to everyone and "be careful out there!"
